About The Coffee Warbler

Cuba  This coffee is grown on small, worker-organized cooperative farms using traditional, shade-growing techniques on the slopes of the Sierra Maestra mountain range in Eastern Cuba.

The Cuban coffee farmers have won various international awards for their progressive, integrated organic growing methods including an invitation to join the United Nations Agro ecological Lighthouse program. Due to the fact that the OCIA is based in the USA, the Cubans are unable to have their coffees certified organic by them. The European Certifier, SKAL, however, has recently certified our Cuban Peaberry, organic.

Production and sale of coffee also benefits the people of Cuba through the Turquiño Program. This program invests coffee proceeds into the rural communities through initiatives such as free education from Primary School through University, free medical services and access to hospitals, and electrification of over 90% of all rural homes.

A peaberry is produced when a coffee cherry contains only one coffee bean instead of two. This is a very rare occurrence and produces a very special coffee. Although this phenomenon is observed in every coffee-growing country, very few growers invest the time and effort to separate these much sought after beans. Many coffee farmers feel that one peaberry has all of the coffee essence of two coffee beans, making them prized and sought-after by roasters around the world.

This coffee has a rich, chocolatey, nutty flavour with a heavy body and a sweet, smooth aftertaste. It is roasted medium-dark, giving it added sweetness and aroma. Cuba Turquino organic is a full bodied coffee with a lush smoky flavour. it is a clean tasting coffee with mild acidity compared to other Central American coffees due to its lower altitude.
